The Engineering Behind the Vitrocsa Curved Window System

Achieving a curved sliding glass surface with a 3-metre radius demands precision manufacturing at every stage. Here's how Vitrocsa engineers what other systems cannot.
The problem with curves
Curved glass is not new. Curved glass that slides — that moves along a curved track, seals weather-tight, and maintains the thermal performance of a flat panel — is an engineering challenge that few manufacturers have solved.
Vitrocsa's Curved system is the result of decades of refinement, protected by patents covering the curved track manufacturing process itself.
The specifications
The Curved system supports sliding glass surfaces with a minimum radius of 3 metres. For fixed curved glazing, the radius can be tightened to 1.5 metres, allowing sweeping architectural curves that still perform as a building envelope.
The system uses 32 mm or 44 mm double or triple glazing, ensuring thermal quality that meets current standards for low energy consumption while maintaining the curved form. It is offered in the TH+ range, which combines thermal insulation with the capacity for large curved glass surface areas.
Manufacturing to watchmaking standards
Every component of the Curved system is produced in-house at Vitrocsa's facility in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. The curved tracks are machined to tolerances measured in hundredths of a millimetre — the same precision applied to high-end mechanical watch parts.
This is not an exaggeration. Vitrocsa uses more than one thousand exclusive components in its hidden elements, uprights, and closure mechanisms, all produced the same way as watch components: each part perfect, ideal for its role, allowing the number of system components to be reduced to a minimum.
The result
A curved sliding wall that moves with the smoothness of a flat one, seals against wind and rain, and insulates as effectively as any Vitrocsa system. It is why architects specify the Curved system for the most ambitious curved façades — and why no one else can replicate it.
